Conference and Events
AELERT coordinates an annual conference to bring together environmental regulators from across Australia and overseas. The conferences provide an opportunity for practitioners within environmental regulatory agencies to discuss and highlight their experiences in regulatory practice, legislative drafting, licensing, policy writing, compliance monitoring, audit and the investigation and enforcement of environmental offences. There are also opportunities to workshop common issues confronting environmental regulators.
7th Annual AELERT Conference

6th Annual AELERT Conference - 2009
The 2009 AELERT conference was held at the Wrest Point Hotel in Hobart between 15 - 17 September 2009. The theme of the conference was “Regulation in a Dynamic Future - Driving Changing Attitudes”.
181 delegates attended the conference, with feedback being very positive.
Keynote speakers included internationally recognised environmental expert Professor Tim Flannery, M.C. Mehta of the M.C. Mehta Environmental Foundation, and Professor Malcolm Sparrow of Harvard University. The conference also featured presentations from a number of other eminent Australian environmental experts and experienced regulators.

2008 AELERT Conference
The 2008 AELERT National Conference was held at the Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle, Perth. The theme for the conference was “The Way Forward: Risks and Opportunities.”
2007 AELERT Conference
South Australia hosted the 4th annual AELERT conference from 26-28 November 2007 at the Holiday Inn in Adelaide, Australia. The theme for the conference was “Innovative Compliance” and attracted more than 260 attendees.
2006 AELERT Conference
The 2006 conference was co-hosted by the New South Wales Department of Environment and Conservation, Department of Natural Resources and Sydney Catchment Authority in Sydney in November 2006 and attracted over 250 delegates.
Guest speakers at past events have included the Chair of Interpol’s Environmental Crimes Committee, Principal Lawyers, Senior Investigators from international environmental regulatory agencies, Judges and Magistrates and numerous state and territory agency representatives.
