Charter

The foundation members of the AELERT network established a Charter. It commits members to cooperate with and support each other as far as they reasonably can, but is not legally binding.

The Charter sets out objectives which include:

  • To create gateways for liaison and cooperation between agencies.
  • To assist agencies to formalise bi-lateral and multi-lateral relationships through memoranda/letters of
    understanding and procedural guidelines.
  • To establish standards of information sharing and exchange.
  • To establish competency and training standards and promote professional development for staff.
  • To facilitate the development and provision of nationally accredited and internationally regarded
    training.
  • To establish best practice standards on the use of investigation methods, intelligence, science,
    technology and expert evidence.
  • To establish mechanisms for sharing statistical information, including information related to prosecutions.
  • To help Member Agencies to deliver on their legislative objectives.
  • To form beneficial associations with other organisations that may assist in advancing these objectives.
